I Got it From My Mama

Happy Mother’s Day, Mama!

As always, I’m a much faster typer than writer, so I figured I’d type all my thoughts down.

Mom,

Thank you for always being there. Your consistency is like the sunrise. I can always count on you to show up. For any event in my life. For that, I am sure you drove in rush hour traffic many nights to volleyball games.

You are selfless. Putting my needs above your own so many times, along with anyone in your path. You have taught me to love others well.

Thank you for being prepared for every situation. You are the eternal girl scout. You have what I need, whenever I need it. Whether it’s a granola bar in your purse, gum for my coffee breath, blankets for long car rides, or ice cream for bad days, you have a way of knowing what I need before I do.

In so many ways, I am like you. The older I get, the more I see it.

First, from you, I got my love of books and reading. You always have a book that is sitting on your nightstand. Now, because of you, my nightstand is more like a book stand.

Second, from you, I got my love of hosting people. You are the best hostess I know. Everyone who comes into your home leaves feeling full. Of food, of love, of puppy snuggles, and of encouragement. You have taught me to always make people feel welcome, and that my home should have blankets on every couch, so people feel comfortable to snuggle up.

Third, from you, I got my love of to-do lists. I used to hate that thing. You know it. But now, I carry one in my purse, just like you have for my entire life. You were right, it really is the best thing in the world.

Fourth, from you, I got my love of snuggles. You are such a cuddle bug.

You know how to play hard. From Vegas vacations, to shopping trips, to pedicures. Your laugh is like an explosion, and I love the nights where we stayed up late laughing. After midnight, your sense of humor is the best.

You have always been there. When I am sick, I still call you and wish you were there to rub my back and bring me Sprite.

I love you a million. And I am so glad to call you my mama. What a good one you are.

The best.

Love you,

Peanut
